In this self-study short course,the instructor taught therapists why a lisp is rarely a developmental speech sound disorder and challenged therapists to look beyond inconsistent articulation normative data and the traditional model when assessing and treating lisps. Orofacial myofunctional disorders were discussed as the root of the pesky lisp and medical and structural challenges were explored. Lateral and interdental lisps were targeted, as well as the placement of /t/, /d/, /n/, /l/, /r/, /∫/ , /t∫/ and /dз/.Participants were provided strategies that they could immediately apply to their practice.
